Several years ago, I stumbled upon Martin Rooney’s “Hurricane Training” and quickly fell in love with it. My athletes loved the challenging and brutal workouts, but more importantly, they loved the results! Last week, we brought back the hurricane training for a special challenge…Are you up to the challenge?

If you’ve never heard of Martin Rooney, he is a badass strength coach who walks the walk. I know Martin trains a lot of fighters, and these sessions were designed to train the ability to be strong in a fatigued statesomething fighters, and ALL athletes need. So these Hurricane sessions are brutally effective for fat loss, sports conditioning, and just plain badassery.

If you’re man (or woman) enough to make it through these…rest assured, progress awaits on other side of the storm…

We don’t chase fatigue, and the above picture isn’t the norm. But every once in a while, it’s good to find out what you’re made of!

As always, we started our session with a main strength movement. In this case, it was the floor press. We worked up to a heavy 5 rep max, and then moved on to the hurricane.

Here was Martin’s original plan:

We don’t have treadmills, so we modified ours to look like this:

Pairing 1, 2, and 3 are performed as tri-sets. Do 30 seconds of movement a., followed immediately by b., then c. for the prescribed number of reps. Then rest 60 seconds and perform 2 more rounds – 3 total rounds of each pairing.

Note: We also don’t have enough space for multiple chin-ups or inverted rows, so we used Renegade Rows as our DB replacement.

The Challenge

Pick either of these sessions and give it all you’ve got! Post which session you chose along with your weight used and experience in the comments below.

Did I mention It pays to win
