This post doesn’t necessarily focus on athletic or strength pursuits. I’m going to rant for a minute about excuses and the lesson can be applied to any and all aspects of our lives.

I hate excuses. I can’t stand it when people use life’s little hurdles as reasons to not hold themselves accountable. Almost daily I hear athletes, clients, and regular gym-goers rattle off the numerous reasons WHY THEY CAN’T be successful. I’ve heard every excuse you can think of: time, money, religion, family, travel, work, and the list could go on and on.

Here’s the deal…THERE WILL ALWAYS BE SOMETHING IN YOUR WAY. No matter who you are or what your pursuit may be, the road will not be paved in gold and lined with red carpet. There will be bumps, injuries, inconveniences, haters, setbacks, roadblocks and all kinds of headaches. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you can mentally prepare yourself to deal with those obstacles. If your goal is truly important to you, you will find a way to make it work. That’s what commitment is all about.

Take a look at the golfer in the picture below. The first time I saw this picture a few years ago, this motivated more than you could believe. As far as excuses go, losing a leg and quitting golf would seem a bit more acceptable than “I had a bad day, so I ate comfort foods”. But our guy here didn’t even let the loss of his leg stop him from playing golf. And he’s playing at a pretty high level too (mini-tours)! My point today is this: Man up and go get it!
