Let's be honest, life can sometimes feel crazy, chaotic, even overwhelming.⁣
⁣
In today's BHP Short, I'm sharing 3 of my go-to strategies to center myself, protect my sanity and productivity:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ Reading Tao Te Ching⁣
⁣
In a world that constantly urges us to be and do more, sometimes, we need a reminder that we are enough. We (usually) possess the answers within ourselves, if we allow ourselves the time and space - free from distraction - to sit and let them bubble up to the surface, which is precisely why the next two strategies are so effective. ⁣

2️⃣ Scheduling

Ever watch kids or excited adults arrive at a pool?⁣
⁣
If you have, you might notice that people who want to swim in the deep end of the pool usually use the diving board.⁣
⁣
Wading in gives us an opportunity to turn back if we change our minds, you know, when things get uncomfortable.⁣
⁣
Cannonballs and gainers don’t provide the same escape clause.⁣
⁣
Once we decide and commit, there is no going back.⁣
⁣
The boats have been burned.⁣
⁣
When I owned my performance training facility, House Of Strength, I had countless potential members tell me they “needed to get in shape before they could workout here.”⁣
⁣
I say the same thing now that I told them every time: I’m calling BS on that one.⁣
⁣
First of all, great coaches know how to meet you where you and help you progress from there… but I digress.⁣
⁣
The lesson here isn’t about the coach/mentor.⁣
⁣
The lesson here is not to give ourselves an OUT before we begin.⁣
⁣
Adversity and challenge await us all.⁣
⁣
Don’t give yourself an easy out.⁣
⁣
People who know they want to swim in the deep end of the pool usually use the diving board.⁣
⁣
Do yourself a favor and commit fully to yourself and your pursuits.⁣
⁣
Burn the boats.⁣
⁣⁣
Turns out, brain and behavioral research supports this. TUNE IN to the latest BHP Short to find out why abrupt & ALL IN beat gradual transitions for habit change.⁣⁣

Mastering Transitions and Change |⁣
⁣
The Nowhere Between Two Somewheres⁣
⁣
This is the space that most requires us to trust the process.⁣
⁣
It could last 0.2 seconds or 20 years, depending on the pursuit.⁣
⁣
Whether it’s a new habit, a diet change, a fitness pursuit, or anything else, THIS is where we screw up most: the transition zone⁣
⁣
The old no longer exists, but the new has yet to be born.⁣
⁣
It’s like flying through the air between two trapezes.⁣
⁣
Anything can happen.⁣
⁣
It’s the point of highest anxiety.⁣
⁣
It’s the moment we’re most susceptible to old habits (neurological wiring).⁣
⁣
The worst thing we can do when between these trapezes is freak out.⁣
⁣
To flit and fail in the air or otherwise deviate from the process is to decrease our odds of successfully arriving at the new place (point B, the new habit).⁣
⁣
We must remain calm and trust the process if we are to successfully arrive at the new place.⁣
⁣
Prepare a solid plan. Trust it. Execute with 100% commitment. Get to the new solid ground as quickly as possible. (Then REPEAT for perpetual growth.)⁣
⁣
F*ck those feelings of doubt, fear, insecurity.⁣
⁣
**What you just read originally appeared as a post I made on IG last year and this concept of mastering transition and change is something we discuss in the Better Human Workshops. Since it comes up repeatedly, I want to share more of these thoughts in a series of BHP Shorts. This is the first.**

Austin Powers & The Wolves of Yellowstone⁣
⁣
When wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park in 1995, researchers and Park Rangers chose to number the wolves instead of naming them. This decision was made as an intentional precaution to reduce emotional attachment and possible human intervention.⁣
⁣
They understood that naming the beings increased attachment and reduced their ability to be passive bystanders.⁣
⁣
In the Goldmember edition of Austin Powers, Austin Powers’s father reminds us that unnamed characters are easily dispatched, many times without so much as a fight.⁣
⁣
“Do you know who I am? Do you know how many anonymous henchmen I’ve killed? You haven’t even got a name tag! Why don’t you just lie down and let me go?”⁣
⁣
The takeaway lesson for us:⁣
⁣
The anonymous and unnamed are more easily discarded.⁣
⁣
Our unnamed dreams are more easily killed than those with a name, face, and voice.⁣
⁣
We can use this psychological phenomenon to our advantage by giving name to our goals and visions.⁣
⁣
How many times have you – or someone you know – uttered:⁣
⁣
“I want to do more. Other things. Big things. Great things… or “I have so much that I can teach others. I have so much that I want to share.”⁣
⁣
WHAT ARE THE THINGS???⁣
⁣
Be specific. Give them a name.⁣
⁣
Giving them a name brings them to life and gives them voice and power.⁣
⁣
Does it guarantee success? No, nothing in this life is guaranteed.⁣
⁣
BUT, at least they won’t be unnamed wolves or anonymous henchmen destined to be written out of the story without a fight.⁣
⁣
Give your dreams and visions a name. Give them a face, breathe life into them, and make it exponentially harder to cut them loose or walk away from them in your moments of temptation or struggle.⁣
⁣
Give name, life, and power to your dreams. Let them breathe so the sparks can burn into a raging inferno. Bring your dreams to life.⁣
⁣

The Rule of Thirds |⁣
⁣
In Major League Baseball, the best teams will lose about 1/3 of their games every season while the worst teams win about 1/3 of their games.⁣
⁣
What separates the “good” teams from the “bad” teams, is what they do in the remaining 1/3 of their games. What happens in those remaining 50 games determines the success (or failure) of their seasons.⁣
⁣
The analogous carryover to the human experience is the lesson in today’s BHP Short.⁣
⁣
We can (roughly) expect to have about 1/3 of our days go our way while another 1/3 will be struggles (emotionally, physically, etc etc) - that’s just life. We’re going to have some wins and we’re going to have some losses.⁣
⁣
The remaining third of our days could go either way.⁣
⁣
What we do with those days determines the level of success and enjoyment we derive from this life.⁣
⁣
The Rule of Thirds is unique spin on the timeless axioms that we control our attitude and effort, and how we spend our time and the choices we make dictate our fate.⁣
⁣
By acknowledging that life’s ups and downs are unavoidable, we open ourselves to the opportunity to find the variables we can control, and the choices that awareness affords us.⁣
⁣
What we do with those choices determines the rest.⁣
⁣
