“Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true
Or is it something worse?” – Bruce Springsteen

Think about that for a moment.

Those are some powerful lyrics.

Deep. Dark. Mysterious. Scary. TRUE.

But they can also be motivating. Even inspiring.

As I told you last week, music is a big part of my life. Especially the music of Bruce Springsteen. His early music captures the hunger, the frustration, and the burning desire of a young person fighting to achieve something special. I think that’s why I relate to it so well. That, and the fact that he’s a freaking rock & roller!

I think that’s why you’ll relate as well.

  • You’re hungry.
  • You’re passionate.
  • You probably have more passion than patience right now.

And that tends to lead to frustration – but frustration tends to come from focusing on perfection. Focus on progress, not perfection. Enjoy the process, for the journey IS life.

We all have dreams. We all have “hungry hearts” (another Bruce song).

So why don’t we all achieve our dreams?

Short answer – the focus is wrong. The focus is on perfection, rather than progress. We want that END-GOAL right now or we consider it a failure. WRONG.

As such, people protect themselves, and never truly reach out for those goals. Most people never commit 100% to their dreams. They might do a little on the side, or in their spare time. They stick their toe in the water, so to speak. Problem is, even though they’ve “invested”, they’re still 90-99% OUT of the water. Committing only a small percentage to your dream just isn’t enough to outwork those who are willing to risk it all. And THAT is why those folks are ones competing in the summer Olympics, the national championships, or the NBA Finals.

Take a book or seminar for example…

How many people buy a book that claims to provide answers?

Of those people, how many actually crack open that book?

How many of those FINISH the book?

Even fewer still actually TAKE ACTION on the things learned in that book.

So now it’s pretty easy to see why failure rates are so high. And why so many dreams are still dreams, rather than realities.

You must be an action-taker. Action takers are the ones who are successful in life.

The same is true for camps, clinics, seminars…anything that can make you better. Everyone goes to camps. Everyone plays travel sports these days. AAU basketball, travel softball, wrestling clubs, school teams…EVERY athlete is playing year-round these days. How will you set yourself apart?

Learn to distinguish between learning & putting into action.

While one person researches the ULTIMATE program on the internet for getting ripped, jacked, and shredded, there is somebody out there squatting, running hills and becoming a BEAST on the basics. One person is learning and the other is taking action.

Guess which person stands a better chance of realizing their dreams…

“Is a dream a lie if it don’t come true
Or is it something worse?”

A dream that doesn’t come to life remains a dream.

And that dream will “haunt you like a curse”.

And that’s going to suck when you’re old and gray. Don’t let that happen to you. Go get your dream.
